Event: Prediction Markets: Tapping the Wisdom of Crowds
Yahoo is organizing a new open micro-conference series. They are kicking off the series with a panel about 'Attention Markets'. James Surowiecki, author of 'Wisdom of Crowds', will be moderating the group. Yahoo has invited a well rounded list of both big names and startups as speakers. I am looking forward to attending this. Amazon chose 'The Long Tail' as the business book of the year, but I think I would have a hard time choosing between 'The Long Tail' and 'Wisdom of Crowds'. Why choose? get both!

long tail vs the monotony
A while back I came across a great article that addresses the implications of popularity oriented media. You can see it here on MediaAngler. One statement stood out:
Many of the journalists who feel frustration with traditional media feel it because there’s no way to crack the consensus and move the discussion (any discussion) on.If journalists are ahve a hard time getting out of the monotony rut, then how are rest of us going to do this?
Wouldn't you like to tag today?
I wonder when they will roll out tagging? Oh wait, I heard they have it in the new beta. They call it labels, but it works the same way.
Check out the label feature on the blogger.com Below the usual post creation window there is a box for entering tags. I wonder if they support spaces in their tags. These tags get shown on the blog and also in the feed.

only one person wins in a popularity contest
Only one person wins in a popularity contest. Everyone else loses. In the content world, the audience also loses out because popularity it not always the best indicator for the relevance and quality of content. I may be a good indicator of how well the content has been marketed, but that means the marketing trump content quality. At postreach we focus on measuring content quality and relevance. This also helps us measure how well content has been marketed.
